![]() Many writers tend to overwrite their first drafts. Specifically, let’s answer two frequently asked questions about what to include in a rough draft: How long should a rough draft be?Ī rough draft should be about as long as the final version. Of course, the rough draft is only for the writer, so no one will stop you if you need to skip some sections or gloss over others-but you’ll have to address any shortcuts leading up to the final draft. So, everything you’d include in the final draft should go into the first draft. What to include in a rough draft?Ī rough draft is essentially a raw version of the complete assignment. ![]() Certain flaws like organizational issues or plot holes aren’t evident until after you see them laid out in writing. Finding the perfect word and arranging elements in the best order are much easier after you have a first draft, whereas they can be quite troublesome and time-consuming without one.Ī rough draft also helps you identify problematic areas you can’t see with outlining and brainstorming alone. The ultimate goals of your rough draft are to get your ideas down and give yourself something to start with. Remind yourself: It doesn’t have to be good, it just has to be. When embraced with the right mindset, the rough draft helps cut through these obstacles by taking the pressure off. Even if you have a talent for putting words together, you’re not immune to the concerns that beset any writer, such as deadline dread, creative blocks, or any number of personal insecurities. ![]() Often, it’s the longest and most effortful phase, involving most of the actual “writing.” What’s the purpose of a rough draft? The rough draft is part of the recommended writing process, step three of five to be exact. The idea is to get a large portion of your project actually written, and worry about fixing the problems later. A rough draft is never intended to be perfect it’s full of grammatical mistakes, poor word choices, and structural issues. It acts as the framework for the final version. Grammarly helps you communicate confidently Write with Grammarly What is a rough draft?Ī rough draft or first draft (or, according to my second-grade teacher, a “sloppy copy”) is an initial, incomplete piece of writing that is the first attempt at getting all your ideas on paper.

![]() They convey the total disruption of the illusion that she was in love. Maddy's tears are more than the fear of this scene being her or Nate's last moment alive. This scene contains so much more than it presents. Tearfully she gives it up before Nate finally calls it quits with her. In this scene, Maddy completely breaks down, to a gun-wielding Nate ambushes her and demands the disk. While none of these characters deserves to be threatened, the last person we expected to see the villainous side of Nate Jacobs was Maddy, considering everything they have been through together. In Season 1, Episode 2, he once threatened and beat Tyler in his room before blackmailing Jules into making a false confession to cover up his crime. ![]() This is not the first time we see Nate in this light. In Season 2, Episode 6, we see Nate threaten Maddy into giving him his Dad's sex tape. The unpredictability of his actions, his tendency to initiate violence and make skin-chilling threats depict him as a villain no one deserves to cross. From remaining in a toxic relationship with a complicated Nate Jacobs to being betrayed by best friend Cassie, here are 10 times Maddy deserved better.Īt this point, there is no doubt that Nate Jacobs is one the most terrifying characters on Euphoria. According to Anya Formozova for The Take, "Maddy is a queen bee with a heart." Nontheless, her kind heart and fierce loyalty to her friends, among other positive traits, did not exempt her from receiving the worst treatment from the characters she cared for deeply in Euphoria. Neither is she a bully who torments the protagonist for no reason. Unlike other mean girl characters on TV, Maddy is not the stereotypical head cheerleader or privileged materialistic girl whose biggest problem is sticking to unrealistic beauty standards or amassing social media followers. To the credit of the showrunner and a career-best performance from Demie, Maddy redefines the "mean girl" trope that is very common in television. However, one character whose arc needs more spotlight is Maddy Perez (Alexa Demie), the Queen Bee of this high school drama. From Rue Bennett (Zendaya) to its big bad, Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi), every character in Euphoria navigates the highs and lows of teenage life through compelling and emotional approaches we cannot help but empathize with. Written and Directed by Sam Levinson, the teen drama series thrives on several fonts, especially with regards to its diverse characters, whose struggles and journeys many young adults today relate to. This reality defines a significant part of Maddy's arc in the two seasons of HBO's Euphoria. Smooth coverage of large areas - A PMS color works well when the consistency and saturation of large areas of a solid ink color is importantIt is used by many printers and graphic artists to deliver reliable, reproducible colors to their customers. When printing a solid color with process inks, slight variations in the color balance can affect the consistency of the color.ĭ. Color consistency from page to page - If you are printing stationary like letterheads and envelopes or business cards then it might be worth using Pantone. Colors outside the range of CMYK - There are some colors that just can't be produced with CMYK, including colors such as reflex blue, navy blue or bright orange.Ĭ. Using PMS colors for your logo and stationery will allow you to ensure color accuracy and establish a standard that anyone working with your artwork will be able to match.ī. Consistent Branding - Think Coco Cola red or Intel Blue. This method can be referred to as 4 color, full-color or standard process printing.Ī. The CMYK colors are manufactured colors and are not mixed by the end user. The colors are then printed one after the other to recreate the original image. The separated color images are then transferred to four different printing plates on the press. The image is recreated using screen tints made up of small dots that are applied at different angles to the four process colors. When preparing an image for printing in CMYK, the electronic file is separated into four primary colors: cyan, magenta, yellow and black. Using PMS inks is called spot color printing. The specified ink is then prepared using the correct mixture of base colors, either purchased pre-mixed from an ink company or mixed on-site at the printing company. These numbers are used to identify the exact color needed. Each color has a 'PMS' number assigned to it. Creating a Pantone spot color is similar to mixing paint such as blue and yellow to get green, but with much more precision. By standardizing the colors, manufacturers and customers in different locations can all refer to the Pantone system to make sure colors match. Every computer monitor is different, every printer is different. It takes all the guesswork out of color identification. Color is very subjective, which is why the PMS works so well. ![]() Similar to the paint swatch guides you find at your favorite paint store, the pantone color chart contains thousands of color swatches created from a palette of basic colors. The reason I mention this is that he talks in his book about Myklebust and how he was a student at Northwestern University at this same time. I recently was asked and honored to write a preface for a new textbook that Jim Jerger is writing. He stayed interested in auditory function throughout his life. He was a brilliant man who became interested in hearing in his first job as a psychologist at the Tennessee School for the Deaf. Not only was he a pioneer in APD assessment, but he also was a founder of the field of learning disabilities. At that time, Helmer Myklebust, who was a psychologist, was on the faculty. Let’s go back to Northwestern University in 1954. This second volume of the Handbook of Central Auditory Processing Disorders (Musiek & Chermak, 2013a 2013b) hits upon all the treatment options available right now. If you cannot help children and adults with APD be more effective communicators, to be be more successful in school and better readers, or to keep their jobs and communicate as much as they need to in any given situation, then you have not done much. Our final measure of how well we are doing is the outcome of the patient. Even if you can diagnose a problem, you have not done much if you cannot intervene effectively. Most importantly, I am going to emphasize the intervention. They are going to get better over the years, but in 2014, we can evaluate auditory processing disorders and distinguish them from the most common co-existing disorders. Not only do we know a lot about the underlying mechanisms and processes that lead to APD, but we also have good test batteries. The second volume of the book has 23 chapters as well and is called Comprehensive Intervention, which covers intervention, rationale and the science behind APD. There are many well-known people in this area who contributed to the book, such as Frank Musiek, Gail Chermak, Nina Kraus, Teri Bellis, Jeff Weihing, and Sam Atcherson. There is a lot of practical information, but it also covers a lot of basic information that you need to have. Volume 1 is Auditory Neuroscience and Diagnoses. I have no financial interest in this whatsoever. You can get more timely information on APD in a new book series called the Handbook of Central Auditory Processing Disorders (Musiek & Chermak, 2013a 2013b) this is a second edition of the book, which has been expanded. In fact, we could carve out any area of APD and easily spend four or five sessions on it alone. Even in this series, we are only brushing the surface. Any APD test battery must have at least one or two dichotic tests, and it has also led to a very interesting and effective treatment program for APD. He is going to talk about one of the oldest and most well-respected types of tests in the APD test battery, and that is dichotic listening tests - here is a link to his course. Then we will talk about some definitions of auditory processing disorders (APD) and risk factors for APD, both for children and adults, as well as disorders co-existing with APD. Today I will begin with an introduction, not just to this particular lecture, but to the auditory processing disorders webinar series on AudiologyOnline.
